Six month update

six months and three weeks old!
at his six month checkup: 26 1/2 inches long (50th %), 15 lbs 10 oz (25th %)

i have to say that the past two months have been pretty busy. zachary is much more active and can roll around, which requires more of my attention. i still have time for myself, probably more than before, in spurts. i have been able to get a facial, get my hair done, and next on my list is a massage followed by a pedicure.

i find that emotionally i am much more equipped to handle baby stresses when i have had enough sleep. take for example last night after traveling to/from DFW this past weekend and not having as much night time sleep, i went to bed at 8:00, just after zachary. we were both tired and fussy. forget wanting to get some exercise or clean up the kitchen.

he has two teeth coming through now, both front bottom teeth. he has run a temperature on occasion and we have used orajel and off-brand acetaminophen to help comfort him. he has some stranger anxiety when someone he doesnt know comes right up to him and gets too close or holds him. he needs a minute or two to check them out first. he seems a bit shy, often smiling at them, then burying his face in my shirt as he looks away. he is a very sweet and happy baby. there are times when he needs to be held or entertained more than others and i remember how much i love holding him since he doesnt always want to be held.

he is napping especially good today. he usually takes one morning nap about an hour, one around noon, for another hour, and sometimes a third. most days he needs the third nap but doesnt always fall asleep. he usually goes to bed around 7:00-7:30. he loves his goodnight moon book and soft music as he gets ready for bed. he also loves when daddy makes the animal noises in his book.

Zachary's 1st 5K

We did the Daisy 5K, which is the oldest running 5K in Austin, benefiting Breast Cancer Resource Center of Central Texas this morning. It is mostly women and their kids. It used to be held on Mother's Day and now allows men to compete and there is a Kids K.

I had planned on being registered to compete in the stroller division. Unfortunately I was not listed in that group, because had I been I would have won first place. There were only two other ladies signed up in that category. So we finished in 30:14 which is pretty slow in normal terms but pretty good considering I had the extra 4o lbs to push around. I got Zachary home in time for his nap and we chilled out the rest of the morning.

Saturday Fun

Aaron is out of town for a wedding in New York. Zachary and I have the weekend to ourselves. Today I probably did more with Zachary in one day than I have since he was born. I still respected his naps and made sure we were home for each one, but we managed to run errands and stay active the rest of our day. He did have time in between for tummy time and play time and I feel more like life is resuming normalcy with kid!

We had a 30 minute or so jog in preparation for the Daisy 5k tomorrow. We also picked up our race packet and ran into friends from ARC and TIBH while we were at the RR outlets. Later in the afternoon we ventured over to Whole Foods for some artichokes, wine, soup for dinner and fruit. I was so lucky that the artichokes were perfect size and only $1.50 each! I guess the food gods were calling me there.

Bad weather is potentially on the way with tornado clouds a couple counties over but it might pass just to our north. Zachary went down for bed and I have to make sure everything is in order for the race tomorrow and watch some TV.

I needed to post some pictures.....

Easter

Lucy's Baptism 4-18-10

It was so nice to be there to see Lucy's baptism at St Andrews Presbyterian Church. She is the most adorable little girl!

4 month Appointment

Wow..it has already been 4 months since our little one entered our world and is now the love of our lives.

Zachary is now 13.3 lbs (20th percentile) and is 24.5 inches (30th percentile). He had two shots and one oral vaccine today. He has been very tired since and is napping now. Our neighbor and son Owen, who is three days older than Zachary, were also there. We would have carpooled to the doctor's office if we had known we were both going to be there. Wednesday Lorielle, Owen's Mom, and I are going to Post-Natal Yoga, a class for Mom and Babies.

We were told that Zachary can have up to 2 oz of water a day now (having not had any before). He tried it and didnt have any real reaction but also didnt drink much. We also were told to start solid foods at five months.

So below is the trip to SA to pickup Dad's new ride, Zachary's first hotel stay in Houston while visiting family, a bath, and a visit from Grandma Brown!

Bye-bye cold bug

Zachary is doing much better although still congested at times. We all caught it and now we are all keeping our distance from other people until we are sure we have kicked it. Aaron had to cancel his trip to New Orleans but we were glad he was home this weekend.

Tuesday we are getting 3 month pictures taken. I would like one large black and white print for the wall and some smaller color shots for frames and the grandparents.

Zachary has really discovered his hands and is often putting them in his mouth. He has rolled over and can lift his head and hold it up pretty well on his own. He found the TV and I can catch him watching it now. Finally, he is growing so much that I dont know how he will fit in his bassinet until 6 months but we shall see.

First Cold

Zachary has his first cold. He had a stuffy nose, was coughing and having trouble sleeping since he can only breath through his nose. The doctor said it could easily lead to an ear infection and he was running a temp of 100.3 yesterday (one tenth of a degree away from what they consider a fever until he reaches three months of age) so I took him in to the doctor. Good news he doesnt have an ear infection, we dont know how he caught the cold but that is what it is. They checked his chest,  lungs and ears and all was good there. He slept a little better last night and didnt have quite as high of a temp and I got some much needed sleep as well.

Since he didnt have a temp up to 100.4 we are just going to ride it out and keep monitoring it. At three months a temp is 102.5 so she said he is so close that she wasnt too concerned over it but said if it gets to 100.4 we will get blood and urine tests run just to be sure.

I know it is just a cold but since I had had so little sleep the past few days I was overwhelmed with it all especially when he would gasp for air and sound like he was choking from the mucous.

He is still congested today but I am hoping that he is on the other side of it now and that he will be better by this weekend. Aaron is travelling out of town for a cousin's weekend that has been planned for months and Kristi offered early on to come in town to help me this weekend and Sara has been so kind and offered as well, thanks!!. Hoping all goes well the next few days.

Ready for a car ride

Mommy had to run to the grocery store and I came along.

Snow!!

It is so unbelievable! Dizzy loved the snow, too.
Mom and Dad said I would enjoy it more when I get older
and build a snow man.

Another TIBH picture with Emily born 12-14-09

You can't tell from the photo, but I was talking and flirting with Emily. She is such a cutie!
